Dream Job: Creative design coupled with copywriting
Tory Olmetti is a Chicago-based copywriter at a fashion boutique and a soon-to-be graduate with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design. In addition to his full-time role, he freelances as a designer, combining his passion for creativity and communication. Outside of work, Tory enjoys biking around the city, visiting the Chicago Art Institute, and walking his cocker spaniels with his girlfriend. He’s also a dedicated Magic: The Gathering player, always up for a strategic challenge.

Displaced: Immigrating to Chicago
Immigrants moving to Chicago face a range of challenges, including language barriers, limited access to affordable housing, and difficulty navigating the legal system. Many struggle to find stable employment due to a lack of recognition for foreign credentials or because they work in low-wage, unstable jobs. Additionally, fear of deportation and limited access to healthcare and social services often prevent them from seeking the help they need.
Despite these obstacles, immigrants contribute greatly to the city’s growth and vibrancy. They open businesses, improve local economies, and strengthen the cultural fabric through their food, art, and traditions. Immigrants also play a key role in revitalizing neighborhoods, often investing in areas that were previously underserved, creating jobs, and fostering community ties. Their resilience and entrepreneurial spirit make Chicago a more diverse, dynamic city.
