BURIED IN WHITE
The Colombian cocaine crisis has had profound economic, social, and political impacts on the country. As the world’s largest producer of cocaine, Colombia has faced violence, corruption, and instability due to drug cartels, affecting communities and the government. While Colombia bears the brunt of the crisis, the top consumers of cocaine are actually in the U.S. and Europe, making it crucial for these regions to acknowledge their role in fueling the problem. The demand for illicit drugs has perpetuated crime and poverty, leading to a negative stigma and damaging stereotypes of Colombia. This image overshadows the country’s true beauty and contributions, such as its rich culture, biodiversity, and other exports like coffee and flowers. The crisis serves as a reminder that global consumption habits have far-reaching consequences, not just for Colombia but for the world.
