Behind a Screen: The Effects of Cyberbullying Among Teens in the U.S.

Approximately 95% of teenagers in the U.S. use social media, and 46% of them have reported being cyberbullied. Cyberbullying is repeated, intentional harm caused to someone through online sources. With the increase of social media over the past years, the severity of cyberbullying has only gone up. Cyberbullying can cause a number of mental health or self esteem issues to the victims. This has increased the chances of self harm of even suicide among teenagers. There are many ways that cyberbullying can be prevented. Supporting the victims of cyberbullying is the most important thing one can do. Encouraging them to block and report the offender, and holding the bully accountable can help the problem. While technology is always going to continue to improve, cyberbullying needs to be stopped.
