Dream Job: Editorial Designer for Bon Appétit

Meghan is based in Phoenix, Arizona, a lover of bold ideas and powered by a good playlist. For her, design is all about curiosity, experimentation, and collaboration. She loves immersing herself in the creative process—asking questions, exploring possibilities, and refining ideas until they click. Whether it’s brainstorming with a team, sketching rough concepts, or fine-tuning the details, she enjoys the hands-on, sometimes messy, work that brings ideas to life.

Aside from designing, she’s passionate about cats, baking, and being outside. She also loves plants and has a growing collection. Some projects she’s currently working on include vector illustration posters of her cats, fixing up her patio, and building an e-commerce website for a friend.

Substance Use Disorder and Incarceration

Criminalized Condition

Substance use disorder is an issue that has been grossly mishandled by the United States government for far too long. The creation of the DEA, substance scheduling, and drug-related arrests all originate from racist ideology. This has led to the highest incarceration rate in the world, with 1.9 million people currently imprisoned. It’s estimated that at least 65% of inmates in the United States have active substance use disorder, yet less than 5% of inmates actually receive any form of treatment while incarcerated. People with substance use disorder have been punished for their illness rather than supported. We need to evolve and start treating substance use disorder for what it is: a mental health disorder, not a crime.
