Affordable Housing Crisis in America

Home/Less: The human cost of America’s housing crisis

The affordable housing crisis in America is of a staggering scale, driven by a growing gap between wages and housing costs. Millions of low- to middle-income individuals and families are caught in the crosshairs, struggling to find safe, stable housing they can afford. Rent and home prices have surged in many areas while wages have largely stagnated. A shortage of affordable units, restrictive zoning laws, and limited government support exacerbate the issue. As a result, many people are burdened by high rent, face eviction, or experience homelessness. The crisis is not confined to urban areas but also plagues rural communities, impacting economic mobility, education, and health. Many groups are working to find solutions. The sticking point now is figuring out which path to take to get the right solution.
