Suffocating: The Prevalent Occurrence of Smog
Smog is a dense and toxic air pollution that occurs in areas with high amounts of fossil fuels and heat. The yellow fog is composed of volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and the heat from the sunlight. Currently, Southern California has the worst smog due to the amount of people living there, how hot the temperatures reach, and the geographical location which traps the smog. Side effects can lead to people dying of asthma attacks, cause damage to the lung and heart tissue, kill or shrivel plants, and significantly impact the ocean ecosystem. Not to mention, global warming ties into the problem since there is more drastic heat to create the chemical reaction that is smog.
