Impeding Futures: The Impact of Student Loan Debt
Student loan debt is causing extreme hardship for individuals across the United States. More than 40 million Americans have student loan debt, with total debt reaching staggering new highs each year. The debt does not affect everyone equally. Black and African American graduates statistically face more hardships and generally owe larger amounts than white graduates. Furthermore, many individuals with high student loan debt, especially younger generations, often feel stuck and feel they must delay major life experiences such as buying a house or starting a family. It is important to help individuals better understand student loans before taking them, how to manage them after, and how to access all available resources and information.
