Plastic Pollution

Under the Sea: the Effects of Plastic in the Ocean

Plastic pollution is a danger not only to the ocean, but to the world. Plastic in the ocean causes suffering to marine animals, by hindering their movements to being the cause of death. When swallowed, it can cause malnutrition, starvation, or internal injuries. When floating in the ocean, it can absorb toxins in the ocean, which then gets absorbed by the marine animals when digested. Which creates a cycle of predators absorbing the toxins from their prey, which then can somehow affect humans when we eat seafood. In the ocean, there are five plastic gyres, with the biggest one between California and Hawaii. This issue is important not only because it can lead to major damage in our ocean, but it can somehow cause unknown damages to our body.
