Dream Job: Medical Illustrator

Emily Meyer is a graphic designer and artist based in Richmond, Virginia. Her minimal approach to design utilizes clean lines and bold colors to create impactful narratives. Emily is also an accomplished portrait artist and hopes to combine her traditional art background with her digital design skills to someday become a medical illustrator. She is inspired by the works of Saul Bass, Pablo Picasso, Jacques-Louis David, Louis Wain, and Charli XCX. Outside of her design work, she enjoys running, comedy, and spending time with her Dalmatian, Ophelia.

There & Back

Recidivism, the cycle of reoffending and reincarceration, is a persistent issue within the U.S. criminal justice system. Despite serving their time, many formerly incarcerated individuals face significant barriers to successful reintegration, such as limited access to education, employment, and mental health services. As a result, nearly two-thirds of individuals released from prison are re-arrested. This cycle not only perpetuates overcrowding in prisons but also limits the opportunities for those affected to rebuild their lives. My exhibit aims to explore the causes of recidivism, highlight the impact of systemic failures, and advocate for reform by visualizing the struggle for reintegration and the consequences of a punitive approach to justice.
