Drug Prescription Affordability
Cost Determines Access. Access Determines Health.
Prescription drug affordability in the United States has become a defining barrier to health. Millions of Americans skip doses, delay refills, or ration medication because they cannot afford the cost. U.S. drug prices are significantly higher than those in other high-income countries, placing disproportionate strain on people with chronic illness, older adults, and low-income communities. When essential medications become financially out of reach, access to care is interrupted, and health outcomes decline. This is not simply an issue of personal budgeting; it is shaped by policy, pricing structures, and market systems. Addressing prescription affordability requires structural reform that prioritizes access, transparency, and equitable health outcomes over profit.
