Caitlin will graduate with her BSD in Graphic Design in May 2026. Her design journey started when she was only 17, doing small design and marketing tasks for startups. Since then, she’s worked for over 5+ startups in various fields, along with personal design projects, an internship, and freelance projects. As a lover of traveling and being her own boss, her dream is to live abroad while running her own design business or doing client work. Caitlin has enjoyed making art from a very young age and is currently trying to make a side-career from that as well. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games, cross-stitching, model-building, and hanging out with her boyfriend.

Exploitation in Every Click

Data security is a widely overlooked problem that affects everyone. Every day, our personal data is collected in discreet ways, especially on social media. Data such as our locations, searches, messages, health information, and habits are valuable assets that companies buy and sell for huge amounts of money. Our data can be used against us by influencing us to buy more, manipulating our opinions, discriminating against our ZIP codes, or leading us to be targeted by scams. Many Americans feel it erodes trust in social media companies, but many don’t know how to protect their data. Spreading awareness about this will encourage people to be more cautious online, reducing exploitation and making a safer online environment.
