Urban Gun Violence
Social Issues by Design?
Urban Gun violence is a complex public health crisis in the U.S., resulting from a mix of
socioeconomic factors, firearm access, and cycles of violence and trauma. In 2025,
nearly 48,000 people died from gun-related injuries, with suicides accounting for over half of these deaths. The impacts extend far beyond physical injury, affecting public health, safety, and economic well-being across the nation, particularly in historically disadvantaged communities.
Urban Gun violence is a broad topic studied across many disciplines, including public health, criminology, and sociology. Key research areas include the types and impacts of gun violence, causal factors, prevention strategies, and policy analysis.
