Wage inequality

Secrets Keep Us from Being Equal.

Wage inequality refers to the substantial gap in earnings between different income groups, which has widened significantly since the 1970s. Top earners have seen dramatic income growth while middle and lower-income wages have stagnated when adjusted for inflation. Contributing factors include globalization, technological change favoring skilled workers, declining union membership, erosion of the minimum wage’s purchasing power, and changes in corporate compensation structures. This disparity affects economic mobility, with CEOs now earning hundreds of times more than average workers. The gap varies by race, gender, education level, and geography, raising concerns about social cohesion and equal opportunity.
