Arctic Climate Change
The Arctic is Disappearing (and you should care)
The Arctic is heating nearly four times faster than the global average. Rising temperatures are melting sea ice, thawing permafrost, and accelerating glacier loss, contributing to global sea level rise. These changes disrupt fragile ecosystems, threatening species such as polar bears, walruses, and migratory birds. Thawing permafrost also releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that further intensifies warming. Indigenous communities face displacement, food insecurity, and cultural loss as traditional hunting grounds and infrastructure become unstable. Because Arctic systems influence global weather patterns and ocean circulation, these regional changes have worldwide environmental and economic consequences.
