Child Marriage

End Child Marriage Practices

Across the globe child marriage practices are still heavily prevalent with negative impacts on health, education, and even economical outcomes. Child marriage is an formal or informal union between a child under 18 years of age to an adult or another child. The U.N. along with experts in Unicef and at The World Bank have worked since the 1960’s to end child marriage practices but there are still places where it is still occurring. Studies show that 1 in 30 boys under 18 are forced to marry under 18, this number is 1 in 5 for girls under 18. Causes include poverty, war, and outdated cultural norms, all of which can be changed through awareness, advocacy, and effort.
